OLC: The Role of CTLs in Supporting the Instructional Use of GenAI

As generative artificial intelligence (GAI) technologies rapidly evolve and permeate educational environments, institutions of higher education are grappling with how best to support faculty and instructors in adapting their teaching practices. In this webinar, we will discuss how Centers for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) are responding to this challenge by offering professional development, resources, and strategic guidance to instructors navigating the integration of GAI into their pedagogy. Drawing on a mixed-methods study that includes a national survey and follow-up interviews with CTL leaders, we will provide a comprehensive overview of current practices, perceived effectiveness, and the barriers CTLs face in supporting faculty during this technological shift.

Intended Audience:
This webinar is particularly relevant for CTL staff, instructional designers, academic administrators, and faculty leaders who are involved in faculty development or educational innovation. However, it will also be of interest to anyone seeking to understand the broader implications of GAI for teaching and learning in higher education.

Key Takeaways:
- A clear understanding of how CTLs across diverse institutional contexts are supporting faculty in integrating GAI into their teaching.
- Awareness of common barriers and how CTLs are addressing them through creative and context-sensitive strategies.
- Access to a practical playbook that can be adapted for use in their own institutions, including tools for planning, implementation, and assessment.
- New ideas for engaging faculty in conversations about GAI that are inclusive, critical, and forward-thinking.
- Connections with peers who are similarly invested in supporting faculty through this technological transition.
