Developing a Robust Research Agenda

Professor Saunders will host an event focused on strategies and tactics for developing a robust research agenda and maintaining a steady output of publications, while also balancing scholarship with other commitments during the tenure-track period. Drawing on two decades of publishing – including six books, 30 peer-refereed journal articles, 25 book chapters, and guest editor roles on multiple special issues – Professor  Saunders will share his “tricks of the trade” on how to maintain a productive scholarly profile. Tailored to the needs of new hires in the School of Arts & Sciences, but applicable to other disciplines as well, this session will focus on the following outcomes:

  • Converting a Ph.D. dissertation into peer-refereed journal articles and/or a full-length book project;
  • Effective strategies for maintaining momentum in the writing process, selecting a publishing venue, contouring one’s output to specific readerships, and navigating the peer review process;
  • How to leverage conference attendance, paper presentation, and other forms of professional networking into scholarly success;
  • Staging research output in line with Farmingdale’s re-appointment requirements and schedule, as well as annual reporting;
  • Developing new projects that build on existing expertise and data sets, as well as how to pursue collaborative engagement with colleagues at and beyond FSC
