2024 International Mother Language Day!
The theme of this year’s International Mother Language Day Celebration is centered around Music, Language, and Resistance. For people who may not use the “official” language of a region or a nation, language and resistance are intimately connected. Many musicians and other artists use “unofficial” languages to express themselves, and music produced in languages, dialects, or even the slang of minorities and marginalized groups are a form of resistance to oppression, colonialism, forced homogenization, and other forms of control.
Are you a musician? Are you connected with languages or ways of communicating that have been marginalized or looked down upon by a dominant culture? Are you familiar with the sounds of resistance? For this year’s celebration, we want YOU to be involved! We are reaching out to Farmingdale students and broader members of the Farmingdale community to find musicians, singers, and other musical artists interested in performing for this year’s campus celebration.
If you are interested or know someone who may be, complete the Proposal form. Please feel free to reach out to Professor Zachary Campbell from the International Mother Language Day Planning Committee with any questions.
All members of the FSC Campus Community are encouraged and welcome to attend! The Modern Languages Department and the office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusive Excellence look forward to sharing this wonderful event with you!
Light Refreshments will be served.
