Immigration Law Workshop: What You Need to Know To Assist Students

Farmingdale State College is proud to partner with the Tortora Sillcox Family Foundation (Sillcox Scholars Program)  on the important topic of immigration and how it may affect our students. The objective of this session is to give student-facing staff and faculty an overview of immigration law, the agencies and roles involved in the immigration process, and the various potential pathways to citizenship. There will be ample of time for Q&A, particularly as it relates to student situations you may be aware of. We hope to give participants some tools to help you listen better and ask appropriate questions while not crossing the boundary of providing legal advice.  Importantly, you will also come away with contacts at local non-profit legal services organizations that you can have strong confidence in and can provide to your students.

Lawyers and immigration advocates from the following organizations will join us:

CARECEN: http://www.carecenny.org

Safe Passage Project: http://www.safepassageproject.org

Make the Road NY: https://maketheroadny.org

The Tortora Sillcox Family Foundation has worked with these non-profits on behalf of its students and others for over six years.  Collectively, they have dozens of highly qualified attorneys specializing in immigration, and they cross collaborate to develop appropriate strategies for their clients. More than 100 Sillcox Scholars have utilized their services. The College thanks Mark and Leslie Sillcox for their unwavering support for Farmingdale and our Sillcox Scholars.
