Using COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) for an introduction to international education

As we look at what COIL can do for our students, one should not forget to which extent it can also enrich a faculty. As an experience that can evolve into a friendship over time, especially when a collaboration is repeated on a semester after semester basis, COIL has the opportunity to enhance team building and problem solving through inter- and cross-cultural interactions of students and faculty involved in the collaboration itself. The experience can help the faculty cultivate a possible Study Abroad opportunity, while students have an intercultural experience.
