Rambo's Rundown

A Message from Dr. Ron Jackson

Welcome to Ram-Bo’s Rundown, your monthly go-to for all things Farmingdale. Each edition will bring you quick updates, helpful tips, important reminders, and some campus highlights and spotlights to keep you in the loop and on track for success.

As we begin a new academic year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all our students at Farmingdale State College. To our returning students, welcome back, we are excited to have you with us again. To our new students, welcome to the Farmingdale family! We are thrilled that you have chosen FSC as the place where you will learn, grow, build relationships, and pursue your goals.

A new semester is an opportunity for a fresh start. Make friends. Get involved. Try something new. Join a club or organization, attend a campus event, participate in recreation or intramurals, and take advantage of the many opportunities to connect with others. Your college experience is about much more than what happens in the classroom.

I also want to remind everyone that your safety is a shared responsibility. Recent events, including the tragic shooting at the University of Virginia, remind us that we must remain aware of our surroundings and take campus safety seriously. Know the emergency procedures at FSC, pay attention to campus alerts, and report concerning behavior or situations to the appropriate campus officials. If you see something that does not seem right, say something. In an emergency, follow the directions of campus officials and first responders, and take time to familiarize yourself with emergency exits and safe locations in the spaces you frequent. Most importantly, look out for one another.

As you navigate the semester, ask for help when you need it. There is no need to face a challenge alone. Whether you need academic assistance, personal support, career guidance, help with basic needs, or simply someone to talk to, FSC has faculty, staff, and campus resources ready to support you. Reaching out for assistance is a sign of strength and an important part of being successful.  Farmingdale has many resources available to help you stay on track. Campus Mental Health Services is here to support you with in-person appointments and telehealth options in certain situations. They can be reached by phone at 934-420-2006 or by email at cmhs@farmingdale.edu. Our Health and Wellness Center also provides a wide variety of services to help you maintain your overall health and well-being.

Our Division of Student Affairs is here to help you Reach. Achieve. Matter. Please take advantage of the resources and services available to you and make them part of your college experience.  Most of all, remember to enjoy the journey. Learn from your experiences, build meaningful relationships, take care of yourself and others, and make the most of every opportunity.

Welcome back, Rams! Have a safe, successful, and outstanding semester. We are glad you are here!
