A Message from FSC President Robert S. Prezant
Dear Parents,
It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you as the newly appointed president of Farmingdale
State College. I have had a long and rewarding career in higher education, most recently
serving as Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Southern Connecticut
State University, another regional public institution, like Farmingdale.
As is true for many of our students, I am a first-generation college student and the
child of an immigrant parent. Through this lens, I have focused my academic career
on serving the hardest working and most promising students. I’m also a biologist -
a marine biologist. In fact, I spent many years as a student, researcher, and educator,
pursuing research right here on Long Island. As a native New Yorker (hailing from
Bayside, Queens), being at Farmingdale is like coming home. I am so fortunate to land
on this beautiful campus with all that Long Island offers. I am again close to family,
close to Long Island’s rich coastal ecology, and surrounded by the best diners and
pizzerias in the country.
At Farmingdale, we are deeply committed to providing the best environment for our
students to learn, work, live, and, most importantly, to excel. Few colleges our size
have the breadth of student support that we do, and it is a point of pride within
our college community. In today's rapidly changing higher education landscape, it
is essential to ensure that all members of our community are validated, supported,
and heard, consistent with College policies, responsibilities, and respect for the
rights of others.
With the safety and well-being of our students paramount, our Office of the Dean of Students offers student advocacy services in addition to guidance, assistance, and referrals.
Campus Mental Health Services provides a range of free, confidential, professional counseling services to all students,
and our New York State University Police Department is available 24/7/365 to respond to campus concerns. In addition, a dedicated link
is available on student-facing web pages with support, guidance, and resources for students and anyone in our campus community.
I am truly honored to be a part of this unique and aspirational community and take
seriously the awesome responsibility we have of educating, supporting, and preparing
our students to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Respectfully yours,
Robert S. Prezant
