Welcome Back
Dear Colleagues,
I hope you had an enjoyable break and that your new year is off to a great start.
I would like to share a few important items as we prepare to begin the spring semester.
The Visiting Scholars Program has been launched. Those interested in participating
should visit the Visiting Scholars webpage for more information. Also, AXIOM applications are open for full-time faculty wishing
to submit requests for a grant-writing reduced-load assignment. For more information
about the Proposal Incentive Program (PIP), please see my previous PIP communication and visit Accessing the PIP Application. Applications will continue to be accepted until March 1, 2025.
Funding to support attendance at the SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC)
in Binghamton, NY on Monday, April 28, 2025 is available through the Provost's Office.
This funding will support those presenting at the conference, including both students
and faculty mentors.
As a reminder, all full-time faculty are required to hold five (50 minute) office
hours per week across three days. The campus policy allows for two of the five required
hours to be conducted off campus using virtual conferencing. The remaining three hours
must be conducted on campus either in-person or virtually. In addition to providing
students with direct access to the faculty, office hours enable collaboration among
colleagues; therefore, office hour schedules are expected to reflect a minimum of
two days on campus. Please note that office hour schedules are to be submitted to
the department chair and should be clearly stated on the faculty member’s course syllabi
with appropriate contact information.
Furthermore, the academic term is 15 weeks, inclusive of final exams. The final exam
schedule has been posted and can be accessed on the Final Exams webpage. In order to meet the State Education Department’s (SED) instructional requirements,
all courses must include 15 weeks of instruction. In cases where final exams are not
conducted, a meaningful academic activity must take place during the assigned final
exam time to meet the SED instructional requirement.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Thank you and best wishes for a productive spring term.
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
