REMINDER - Winter Break 2023

To Faculty and Staff:
With the winter recess approaching, please be advised to take the following steps
before you leave for the holiday break:
- Campus buildings will be closed the evening of Friday, December 22, 2023 through Monday,
January 1, 2024. Be sure to take any personal items or work materials you may need during the break
when you leave work on December 22 as you will be unable to access your office during this period.
- To maximize our energy savings during this period, please make sure that all windows
in your office and other work areas are closed.
- As a matter of computer security, as well as additional energy savings, please shut
down computers and printers.
- Please make sure your office doors are locked and lights are shut off.
For essential employees who will be working on campus, please note that there will
be no water service in Gleeson Hall beginning at 4:00 PM on December 26 through December
28.
In addition, Information Technology will perform multiple updates to IT systems and
our network during the break. These updates will enhance and protect our systems and
ensure continued performance throughout the rest of the academic year.
Virtual Desktop Maintenance
On December 26 and 27, the VPN (secure.farmingdale.edu), phones (desk and soft) and various campus-hosted
servers may be unavailable from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM. This will not affect access to OASIS, Email, Authentication, and farmingdale.edu.
To access campus systems (including Banner) during this maintenance period, please
utilize the Virtual Desktop (VDI – VMWare Horizon). Instructions for VDI access can
be found on the IT webpage under Campus & Virtual Computing.
Between December 26 and December 29, if you are on campus and in a closed building, you may experience intermittent 15-minute
interruptions in network connectivity (Wi-Fi and wired connections) while we make
updates to the infrastructure in our buildings.
Server Maintenance
On December 27, various campus-hosted servers will be unavailable from 9:00 PM to 3:00 AM This will not affect access to Banner, OASIS, Email, Authentication, and farmingdale.edu.
In addition, the Helpdesk will be closed during winter recess. Employees working remotely
are encouraged to reach out to the Helpdesk for assistance prior to Friday, December 22.
