Professional Development: Civic Discourse Training 2/23/26
To Faculty and Staff:
The Office of Community & Civic Engagement (OCCE) invites faculty and staff to participate
in a Professional Development Workshop on Civic Discourse. This interactive workshop will be facilitated by the Constructive Dialogue Institute
and is designed to equip faculty and staff with research-based tools to foster constructive
dialogue and navigate challenging conversations in classrooms and campus spaces.

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Greenley Library, Faculty Center
Participants will:
- Explore how moral values and cognitive biases shape perspectives.
- Learn strategies for bridging differences and facilitating respectful dialogue.
- Gain practical tools to support civic discourse across disciplines and co-curricular
settings.
The training supports Farmingdale State College’s commitment to civic learning and
aligns with the SUNY Civic Discourse General Education requirement.

Upcoming Civic Engagement Event—March 31, 2026
Save the date for Civic Discourse and Engagement Across the Curriculum, a panel discussion
featuring SUNY faculty leaders, including Professor John Draeger (Buffalo State University)
and Chris Keagan (SUNY Oneonta). The panel will explore institutional strategies for
embedding civic learning, dialogue, and democratic engagement across academic programs.
