Update from FSC President Nader, PhD |
April, 2024 |
Congratulations- To Dr. Supriyo Karmaker from Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology who
was recently awarded a U.S. patent for a unique semiconductor device design. The microelectronic
transistor construction has a center core and includes quantum-based features. The
design improves processing power and memory storage, primarily for computers. Dr.
Karmaker was recently recognized for his invention by the SUNY Research Foundation.
The title of the invention is Gate All-Around Effect Transistors Including Quantum-Based Features.
Congratulations- Recently, two dozen faculty members received letters confirming continuing appointment,
promotions, and salary increases to associate professor. Congratulations to all. This
represents about 8% of our total full-time faculty who simultaneously received tenure
and promotion.
Summer Scholarship Stipends- In addition, Provost Joseph and I just awarded a total of $190,000 to 67 members of our faculty to support summer scholarly projects. We continue to support
professional development, scholarship and travel at unprecedented levels with the
understanding that faculty success is vital to the success of the College.
School of Business Student Managed Investment Fund- Congratulations to the School of Business which will soon be opening the Pasternack
Finance Lab and establishing a student-run investment fund through the generosity
of Murray Pasternack and Judy Berkowitz. Two stock tickers have been added in the
School and the fund will give students an opportunity to gain experience in managing
funds. This will be another applied learning initiative that will distinguish our
business school from others. Any net profit from the fund will be available for use
by the School of Business.
Fundraising- SUNY recently released its system-wide funding report for 2022-23. In a few short
years FSC has moved from “worst to first” among the Colleges of Technology. We lead
every other COT by about $1M or more. We also raised more money than eight of the
comprehensive colleges. Faculty have been integral to at least two of the major gifts
that we received.
CPRA and Eight for ’28- I owe a very big thank you to the Committee on Planning and Resource Allocation.
Led by co-chairs John Gross and Meeghan Rogers, the committee was instrumental in
establishing our key performance indicators and action items, and editing this plan.
Their timely and conscientious work is reflected in the strategic plan. The cabinet will periodically assess and report on our progress in addressing and
meeting the KPIs that were developed.
Honors Ceremonies, Recognitions and Commencement- For many of us the month approaching commencement is the busiest time of year. For
me, it is the best time of year. It is the time at which our academic departments
and programs recognize their outstanding students and their work. I try to get to
all of these, and some of the ceremonies are truly moving. Thanks to the dozens of
faculty and staff members who help organize these events that recognize student achievement.
It is also the best time of year as we see the work of our faculty and staff come
to fruition with awards events, pinning ceremonies, celebrations, and more. Most importantly,
we get to see our students cross the stage at commencement. Please join us for our
graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 16.
