To the Campus Community:
I previously communicated with you about two fraudulent e-mails that were sent to our
students which wrongly announced a cancellation of classes. I want to update you on
recent developments related to this issue.
First, University Police and Information Technology conducted an immediate and thorough
investigation as to the source of the false e-mails. An individual has been identified
as originating the false messages and appropriate action is being taken by the campus.
Also, an additional layer of encryption was implemented to further secure our e-mail
system, ensuring that only authorized representatives can distribute campus wide communications
in the future.
Please be mindful that FSC's Acceptable Use Policy strictly prohibits tampering with the operation of our systems or network or using
technology for purposes of malfeasance.
As I stated in my prior message, emergency notifications regarding the cancellation
of classes are posted on the home page of the website and distributed via e-mail and
text through our RAVE communications system. I encourage you to sign up at www.getrave.com. Once on the site, simply enter Farmingdale State College.
October is Cyber Awareness Month, and the College offers important advice and valuable
resources to keep you, your devices, and your information safe and secure. Please
visit the Security and Safe Computing page on the website for more information.
