SUNY Academic Innovation Grants Programs — Call for Proposals
Dear Colleagues:
As previously communicated by the SUNY Provost’s office, I am pleased to announce
that the SUNY Academic Innovation Grants Programs, including the Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG) and Open Educational
Resources (OER) Impact Grants, will once again be offered for the 2026–2027 academic
year. Over $1M in competitive funding will be available to support innovative projects
that advance teaching, learning, and student success. All interested FSC faculty and
staff are encouraged to apply.
This year’s objectives emphasize harnessing AI, openness, and accessibility to advance
affordable, innovative, and equitable education across SUNY. Projects may:
- Use AI to enhance teaching and learning through affordable, open, and flexible instructional
approaches.
- Advance accessibility and equity by reducing barriers for diverse learners.
- Foster collaboration and sustainability across SUNY through innovative instructional
models.
Please visit the Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG) page for more detailed information.
The key dates are as follows:
- January 4, 2026: RFP opens
- March 1, 2026: RFP deadline
- March 8 – 29, 2026: Peer Review
- April 8 – May 1, 2026: IIRC/OER Services and Provost Review
- May 2026: Announcement of Awards
In order to receive a letter of support from the campus, applicants must meet with Danielle Apfelbaum, Scholarly Communication Librarian, who will provide guidance and determine the project's
ability to meet the fundamental requirements of the grant. As a long-time reviewer
for IITG, Danielle has a thorough understanding of the reviewer rubric and will be
able to provide applicants with valuable feedback. Danielle may be contacted at 934-420-5586 or danielle.apfelbaum@farmingdale.edu. Once approved, a letter will be generated by my office to be included with the final
grant submission to SUNY.
Campus Review Process:
- Applicants will submit the final application and narrative to Danielle Apfelbaum for
review by Friday, February 20.
- Applicants will continue to be responsible for following the grant submission process as outlined by OSPA.
- Final grant application to be submitted to SUNY by Sunday, March 1.
Recipients must follow state and campus procurement policies and will need to identify
local campus administrative and procurement support if a project requires expenditures
prior to funds distribution. As is the tradition with these SUNY seed fund programs,
outcomes must be openly shared under a Creative Commons license.
I am looking forward to another round of successful grant applications.
Go Rams!
