LIRR Potential Strike
Dear Colleagues:
As you may have heard, a potential strike by Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) workers may begin on Thursday, September 18. We estimate that about 40% of our students
commute to our campus via LIRR, and a strike is likely to cause major disruptions
and delays. Alternative transportation options include Suffolk County Transit and NICE (Nassau Inter-County Express) bus systems, both of which make stops on our campus by Horton Hall.
If students in your courses are unable to access campus via alternative public or
private transportation, please work directly with them to accommodate their absence
from class. Your flexibility is greatly appreciated. Please contact your department
chair or dean with questions about specific accommodations.
If a strike does take place, its duration will be uncertain. We will provide additional
information if it appears the strike will extend into the week beginning September
29.
