FSC Research Update
Dear Colleagues:
It is a pleasure to join Farmingdale State College as your provost. In addition to
officially introducing myself, I am writing to provide an update on FSC activities
related to research.
Over the past year, President Prezant has led new opportunities for research to grow
and flourish at Farmingdale. These have included:
- The Proposal Incentive Program (PIP)
- Distribution of indirect cost returns
- Visa sponsorship for new faculty
- Support for publishing in Open Access journals
Although there have been research challenges this year, primarily with uncertainty
at the federal level, we have continued to move forward. The foundation for robust
research support at Farmingdale is still being built. Below are some key updates as
we navigate the next few months:
- Grants.gov is back online. A quick review shows that a number of federal programs are once again
taking proposals.
- Although the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Administration (OSPRA) has
had some staff turnover, they are here to help you! The interim point of contact is
Michael DiPresso, dipresmj@farmingdale.edu, who can address questions or connect you with the appropriate resources, whether
on campus or at the SUNY Research Foundation in Albany.
- We are planning to fill the vacancies in OSPRA when the budget allows, in a manner
that best supports the transition of the pre-award process to Academic Affairs. Post-award
administration will remain with Administration and Finance.
In the months to come, I will be learning and listening to better understand your
research needs and identifying ways to grow the research support infrastructure at
FSC, keeping you informed about developments that impact federal and other funding
sources and highlighting your important research endeavors. Please feel free to reach
out to me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting each of you.
