To Faculty and Staff:
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To raise awareness, the New York State
Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) and the Workplace program will
be hosting weekly virtual lunch and learns for all state employees.
In addition, Thursday, October 19th, 2023 is ‘Purple Thursday,’ when communities wear
purple to raise awareness of domestic violence. Please wear something purple to show
your support (ie: a shirt, a ribbon etc).
The informational webinars below are available to all New York State employees during
Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Increasing Safety for State Employees: NYS Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Workplace Policy
These Lunch & Learn sessions will be 30-minute presentations focused on the basics
of the Gender-Based Violence and the Workplace policy. Employees learn about Executive Order #17 and the protections, resources, and accommodations that may be available and how
to contact their Domestic Violence Liaisons to discuss workplace safety. Dates and registration information can be found here.
Domestic Violence 101 Webinar Series
Throughout October, OPDV will be hosting a one-hour webinar on domestic violence that
is open to all. This webinar will cover definitions, power and control tactics, staying
versus leaving, survivor-centered responses and resources. Dates and registration information can be found here.
The Lunch & Learn sessions and the DV 101 webinar series are opportunities for staff
to learn about the protections of New York’s Gender-Based Violence and the Workplace
