To the Campus Community:
As you may know, the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the use of affirmative action in university admissions.
Farmingdale is a majority minority institution that is proudly representative of the
diversity of Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area. In fact, we are appreciably
more diverse than most other SUNY institutions and our academic peers.
We consider our diversity one of our greatest assets. Our success in recruiting –
and graduating – students from disparate backgrounds speaks to the value of the educational
experience delivered by FSC and, indeed, across the SUNY system. It represents our
commitment to affordability and access to our academic programs, and is a testament
to the work of our faculty and staff.
FSC welcomes a diverse class of students each year, and will continue to do so. We
embrace a campus culture that celebrates the identities, talents, pursuits, and contributions
of our entire student body, and the greater FSC community.
This decision will have no direct impact on FSC’s admissions process. Regardless of
the court’s ruling, we are committed to maintaining and advancing our diversity because
it makes a Farmingdale education much more valuable by providing opportunities to
learn from those who bring a variety of perspectives to our campus.
Thank you for your shared commitment to making FSC the diverse, caring and special
place that it is.
