To Faculty and Staff:
The SUNY System collectively spends over $50 million on printing every year. To contain
costs and improve sustainability, SUNY has adopted the System-wide Print Resource Use Policy that will inform future use of printing around the system. This policy requires a
comprehensive analysis of our current use of printing on campus with the targeted
objectives of reducing the number of printers we maintain and the frequency with which
we print.
The initiative at Farmingdale will begin this summer with a baseline understanding
of our current printing infrastructure. From there, our Managed Print Initiative Committee
will work across campus to implement sustainable printing practices, migrate paper-driven
processes to a digital environment, and ultimately reduce our inventory of printers.
We know that change is challenging and that adjusting our printing practices will
not come easily. This project will require the support and participation of the entire
campus community. If we are to be successful, we must be mindful of the many benefits
we will realize as a result of our commitment to reduce printing on campus. Ultimately
we will enable an improved sustainable environment as well as save significant resources
that we can reinvest in the campus.
Please visit the FSC Managed Print Initiative webpage for the most current information as this project moves forward.
Thank you in advance for supporting this worthwhile endeavor and my thanks to IT and
the Committee for their efforts.
