Together in Remembrance
To the Campus Community:
It is almost impossible to believe that 25 years have passed since September 11, 2001,
a day forever etched into our national memory. What was a tragedy across our nation
also unfolded here in our own community, impacting each of us in profound and lasting
ways.
A quarter of a century and yet for most of us the memories remain vivid, immediate,
and deeply felt. The catastrophic losses we experienced that day–and in the weeks,
months, and years that followed–remain with us as they always will. Time does not
erase remembrance of wounds so deep. As we reflect on that moment in time, let us
reaffirm our commitment to all that unites us, rather than what divides us. In the
face of so many challenges, the memory of 9/11 calls us to find common ground, to
nurture with kindness in a manner that defines a true community, and to build memorials
that help us remember what matters most.
As we approach this 25-year milestone, I know you join me in offering immense gratitude
to our military, police, firefighters, first responders, and all those who serve and
support us—on 9/11, in the days that followed, and every day. I wish you all peace
and clarity to reflect in your own way, remembering and honoring those we lost, respecting
the freedoms we hold dear, and finding hope for the future.
