Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
To the Campus Community:
At a time of division and unrest, it is more important than ever to reflect upon and celebrate the life, work, and vision
of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King’s influence on education and the moral framework
he championed are being tested in profound ways. Across college campuses nationwide,
Dr. King’s words serve as a guiding principle, particularly as we address voices that question the value and future of diversity, equity, and inclusion. His message of peace, justice, and hope must resonate powerfully in today’s charged
public discourse and be a call to thoughtful, sustained, and positive action.
At Farmingdale State College, we remain firmly committed to the ideals Dr. King embodied.
We acknowledge that harmful language carries real consequences and reflects painful
histories that many prefer to ignore. This is precisely why education matters. Ultimately, it is how
we conduct ourselves, how we educate, and the deliberate actions we take that define
our impact. In a world marked by uncertainty and challenge, Farmingdale State College
strives to serve as a model for our students and the broader community. Our actions
matter, and they make a difference. I am proud of the ways in which our campus continues
to reflect and advance Dr. King’s vision.
Last year, I reminded our community of Dr. King’s enduring truth: “The arc of the
moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” As we confront racism, bias,
and hate, we must understand that this work demands long-term commitment. Together—through
shared purpose, collective action, and unwavering resolve—we can help ensure that
the arc continues to bend toward its rightful trajectory.
