Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence
To the Campus Community:
It is my pleasure to announce FSC’s five recipients of SUNY’s Chancellor’s Award for
Student Excellence, the highest honor awarded to SUNY students. The Award recognizes
academic excellence and leadership in multiple areas including academics, leadership,
diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, campus involvement, community service, research
and development, and the arts. This year’s honorees are:
Alexa Gutterson '24
Alexa Gutterson earned a BS in business management in December 2024. A devoted member
of the College’s campus community, she served as a global ambassador in the Study
Abroad Office and as president of the Women in Business Club. In addition, Gutterson
continues to serve as a member of the School of Business Student Advisory Board. During
her time at FSC, she demonstrated academic excellence, received two prestigious internships,
and continually demonstrated strong leadership skills and an awareness of the importance
of inclusivity.
Sherin Joseph '24
An exemplary student, Sherin Joseph earned both a BS in computer science and FSC’s
Academic Excellence Award in December 2024. An active member of FSC’s Supporting Women
in Computing Club, she served as club president in fall 2024 and as a tutor in a pilot
project where she taught Introductory computing classes. Joseph was selected to participate
in “Break Through Tech A.I.,” a prestigious 12-month fellowship program hosted by
Cornell Tech. Additionally, she was selected for an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering
during the summer of 2024.
Jairo Orozco ’25
Jairo Orozco, an applied psychology major and sports management minor, is a dedicated
researcher who has participated in both the Mt. Sinai Summer Research Program and
the UC Irvine Neuroscience Summer Institute. He is the proud recipient of the Newman
Civic Fellowship and the Leadership Excellence Award. On campus, Orozco currently
serves as Student Government Association president and as the student member of the
College Council. He has also excelled as a student representative on the President's
Transition Advisory Council and Alumni Association Board.
Vito Postiglione ’25
Vito Postiglione, a visual communications in art and graphic design major and communications
minor, is a valuable member of FSC’s Office for Marketing and Communications, where
he has served as student content producer for the past two years. He also serves as
a senator for the Student Government Association, public relations co-chair for SGA,
president of the Art and Design Club, and vice president of the Robotics Club. An
excellent student and a member of the RAM Program, Postiglione also earned a Microcredential
in undergraduate research and experiential mentorship, participated in FSC’s 2023
IGNITE Symposium, and won “Best Graphic Design” award for the Marcum Workplace Challenge.
Julia Seitz ‘24
An accomplished digital storyteller, Julia Seitz earned her BS in professional communications
in December 2024 and now proudly serves as an Enterprise & Rockettes marketing strategy
student associate at Madison Square Garden Entertainment. She received several recognitions
for her campus contributions including a 2024 Phenomenal Womyn Award, a 2024 New York
State Business Plan Competition qualifier, two 2024 Academic Excellence Awards and
a 2024 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence Leadership Recognition Award. A
member of the International Student Organization and vice president of the Women in
Business Club, Seitz also served as a lead peer tutor in FSC’s Writing Center.
Please join me in congratulating Alexa, Sherin, Jairo, Vito, and Julia for this well-deserved
recognition, and in thanking them for their important contributions to our campus
community.
