Reflecting on October 7
To the Campus Community:
Today, October 7, marks the anniversary of an unconscionable act of terrorism. As
we solemnly reflect on this day in recent history, let us remember that our essential
work here at Farmingdale State College is to learn from each other. To respect the
best of what we each represent. To seek paths that bring us together and make us collectively
stronger. We work to better understand and promote the fact that we have so much more
in common than that which divides us.
Our constitutional rights give us guidelines that allow us to voice our concerns and
to let those around us know where we stand, and we are committed to protecting these
rights. The College also has the responsibility, including under Title VI, to maintain an atmosphere conducive to scholarly pursuits and free from discrimination
and harassment. There is no room for antisemitism, Islamophobia, or any form of discrimination,
harassment, or violence.
I am proud of all members of our Farmingdale State College community who represent
us so well as an institution that understands and respects the complexity and diversity
of the world around us, while seeking avenues to bridge differences that can otherwise
push us apart. Let us use this day, a date marked by an unthinkable event, to affirm
a deeper and broader conviction of who we truly are and better assert the real meaning
of humanity.
