2025 Provost Task Forces Final Reports
Dear Colleagues:
On May 13, 2025, I held a Town Hall to present the findings of three important task
forces. Below is a brief synopsis of their reports along with links to the full reports.
- Task Force for the Development of Scholarship and Service Guidelines in Support of
Term Reappointment, Continuing Appointment, and Promotion (RCP)—Task Force Recommendations
The report focused on clarifying the parameters associated with the concept of the
“refereed environment.” While not altering the requirement for scholarship, the task
force recommends changes which will clearly delineate the refereed environment for
additional reporting in the RCP structure in Axiom Mentor, as well as provide clarity
surrounding the nature of peer review and requirements for faculty in the tenure-track
process (or those seeking promotion to the rank of professor). Based on the report
recommendations, changes to Axiom Mentor will be considered for implementation. In
addition, while not altering the requirements for service, the report recommends a
broader definition of leadership to reflect the level of contribution, time, and effort
to a service role. These recommendations have been incorporated in the Continuing and Term Appointment Guidelines as a reference resource.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force—AI Guidance Document
This comprehensive report is essentially a handbook for the utilization of AI as it
applies to Farmingdale State College. The table of contents includes the following:
an overview of AI, course design and implementation, training and professional development,
scholarship and research potential, professional applications, and other ethical considerations.
Each section provides a snapshot of concerns and opportunities. Recommendations include
the establishment of a repository of sample assignments by discipline, along with
other resources, and a standing AI Advisory Board that will work to provide annual
updates as the use of AI technology in educational practices continues to evolve.
Sample statements for the use of AI have been added to the syllabus templates: General Syllabus Template & DEISJ Syllabus Template
- Online Learning Implementation Task Force—Online Program Infrastructure Implementation Committee Report
This task force was formed to advance the recommendations identified in the Online
Degree Program report with the goal of enhancing the student experience for online-only
learners. This report details the first-year progress towards meeting the four-year
strategic plan goals and objectives. Key areas of focus include online marketing and
communications, student and faculty support, student outcomes and assessment, and
overall online student engagement.
The work of these Provost task forces provides a foundation on which we will continue
to advance our efforts in each of these areas.
