Announcing New Appointments in Academic Affairs
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce two important appointments within the Division of Academic
Affairs.
First is the appointment of Mr. Bryan Garcia as director for EMERGE: Office of First Year and Transfer Year Experience. Mr. Garcia will serve as project director for the Title V Grant and will report into
the Provost’s Office through Associate Provost Christopher Malone.
Mr. Garcia's vast experience working on federally funded grants, along with his exemplary
management of our recently launched ACE program, make him an ideal leader for this
initiative. Having joined Farmingdale in 2019, he has quickly advanced to the role
of senior director for the Office of Academic Support and Access Programs and has
overseen both the C-Step and TRIO programs as director for the past three years.
Second, Laura McMullin, PhD, has been appointed director for University in the High School (UHS). The position was formerly held by Francine Federman, PhD, who, after many years of
service to Farmingdale State College, has announced her well-deserved retirement.
Dr. Federman was instrumental in building our UHS program, which now serves students
from over 100 high schools and provides 79 course offerings annually.
Working alongside Dr. Federman, Dr. McMullin has advanced the reputation of our program
through the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) and has
served as a leader in New York state for UHS program monitoring and development. Dr.
McMullin is nationally recognized for her efforts and has been appointed as a Commissioner
for NACEP. Under her leadership, I am confident that Farmingdale’s UHS program will
continue to thrive.
Please join me in congratulating both Bryan and Laura on their new positions.
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
