across campus.
Socrates was born to the late Theodoros and Chrysoula Thanasas on April 26, 1947 in
Riolos, Greece. The eldest of their five sons, Socrates later moved to New York where
he graduated from Polytechnic Institute of New York University and started his career
at Farmingdale State College, retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his two sons, Theodore and Aristotle, his daughters-in-law, Jaclyn
and Nicole, his five grandchildren, Lilyana, Nicholas, Marco, Damon, and Serafina,
and his four brothers, Thanasis, Dimitris, Panayotis, and Elias.
Those who knew Socrates are welcome to join the family for a celebration of his life
on Saturday, August 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home, located at 385 Main Street in Farmingdale, NY.
Socrates' time at Farmingdale State College was one of the joys of his life. His family
would like to honor his passion for education, the institution, and the community
he loved. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please make a dedication gift
in his memory. Please visit farmingdale.edu/socrates-thanasas.
