Fall 2023 Welcome Message from Provost
Welcome to the new academic year! I hope you were able to rest and recharge during the summer months, and that your
time spent conducting research, teaching, and performing important administrative
duties was productive.
I’m excited to welcome our newest cadre of faculty who will be joining the campus
this year. These faculty include 20 professors who will contribute to our research
and teaching mission and six lecturers, who play such an important role in our classrooms.
The total number of full-time faculty is now 276, a 6% increase since 2022.
We also welcome Dr. Christopher LaBarbera, Assistant Provost, and Dr. Brandi So, Director
of Distance Learning, to our academic staff. Each contributes a strong commitment
to advancing the work of the institution as they build upon our past success.
After a year of piloting remote office hours, the College has decided to maintain
the flexibility allowing for two of the five required hours to be conducted off campus using virtual conferencing. The remaining three hours must be conducted on campus either in-person or virtually. It is important to emphasize that faculty office hours
allow for collaboration among colleagues; therefore, office hour schedules are expected
to reflect a minimum of two days on campus.
Funding to support professional development will continue this year; however, in an
effort to streamline approvals, the application process through AXIOM Mentor will
be suspended with requests for funding going directly to your school Deans.
Lastly, with the new SUNY General Education Framework taking effect for first-time/full-time
students this fall, please make sure that you carefully review the student’s assigned
degree works platform when conducting academic advisement. Also, SUNY System Administration
has identified 16 faculty fellows from across SUNY campuses to provide faculty with
resources to support their teaching and learning needs in the knowledge and skills
area of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEISJ). To access an office
hour with a SUNY DEISJ Faculty fellow, you must register on the SUNY DEISJ Fellows Drop In Office Hours webpage.
Wishing you a good start to the semester and a fulfilling academic year.
My very best,
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
