Academic Year-end Letter
Dear Colleagues,
As the 2022-2023 academic year comes to a close, I wanted to take this opportunity
to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the academic mission of the
College. Over the past year, we have accomplished so much in each of our four schools
that have advanced our recognition within SUNY and the surrounding community.
You have worked tirelessly, from teaching and supporting courses, conducting research,
writing scholarly articles, presenting at conferences, and mentoring and advising
students, to organizing events and promoting your programs. Your work is at the heart
of what Farmingdale State College is all about.
Over the next couple of months, the Office of the Provost will be working to prepare
for the next academic year. Looking ahead, we have already added some syllabus statements
for you to consider including in your syllabus for next year. These statements address
classroom recording and the expectation of an inclusive classroom culture. The syllabus template can be found on the Faculty Resources page in Aries.
We will also be structuring some duties and responsibilities that reflect staffing
changes within the Office of the Provost. Christine Harrigan will be joining my staff
as Executive Assistant to the Provost, beginning May 30, 2023. She replaces Lauren
Romer, who is leaving the College to pursue a new career path. Lauren’s wealth of
institutional knowledge, dedication, and outstanding service is much appreciated and
will be greatly missed.
Also, as mentioned in a previous communication, Dr. Charles Adair will be joining
my Office as Special Advisor to the Provost. In this role, he will serve as our official
liaison to the SUNY System regarding program development, and will support the management
of SUNY initiatives.
Additional announcements will be forthcoming as we work to complete searches in a
number of key areas. All of these changes will require your patience and understanding
as we build, onboard and transition our team.
In closing, I ask that you take time this summer to refresh and renew. The summer
months go by quickly, so enjoy each day!
With best wishes and gratefulness,
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
