Sent on behalf of the Provost - Academic Affairs Update and End of Term Protocol
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to inform you about some staffing changes within the Division of Academic
Affairs and remind you of end-of-term protocols regarding inclement weather.
Dr. Charles Adair, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, will be stepping down
from his role at the start of the Fall 2023 term to join the Provost’s Office. As
a special assistant to the Provost, Dr. Adair will assist with new program development
and academic initiatives. In conjunction with the Dean of Arts and Sciences search,
the Provost’s Office will be searching for an Assistant Provost. Both of these will
be national searches conducted through an external search firm. In addition, a search
for a Director of Distance Learning will commence shortly with the intent of filling
the position by early to mid-spring. Karen Gelles will continue to serve as interim
Director of Distance Learning until the position is filled.
As we approach the end of the semester, I request that you pay special attention to
the College’s Emergency Weather Procedures. If a winter storm disrupts in-person learning,
you will need to make appropriate arrangements to deliver course content (schedule
and modality may vary). Barring interruption of electrical services, you may leverage
remote-learning platforms (Brightspace, Microsoft Teams, Blackboard, etc.) to adequately
carry through the required course material before the final examination period. Reminder
GRADES are DUE 72 hours after the final examination, and access to Blackboard ends
on December 21, 2022.
Please be aware that students have been asked to check with their professors to determine
expectations for attendance and successful completion of any outstanding material.
Without a dedicated Study or Makeup Day this term, it is more important than ever
to stay in communication with your students and be mindful of any adjustments that
may be necessary to guarantee course progression.
As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Thank you, and my best wishes for a successful end to the semester.
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
