Academic Year-End Message
June 21, 2022
Dear Colleagues,
As we wrap up the academic year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation
for your tremendous work, which has been central to the success of our students and
Farmingdale State College overall.
In the coming weeks, I will send out an Academic Affairs Newsletter highlighting some
of our faculty’s accomplishments this past year. The newsletter will also provide
important information and updates from different areas of Academic Affairs. Until
then, I wish to share two important updates regarding FSC’s transition from Blackboard
to Brightspace and an administrative change within the Provost’s Office.
First, Distance Learning is working diligently this summer to coordinate a smooth
transition from Blackboard to Brightspace. Training priority at this time is for the
334 faculty members teaching in a distance-learning format in the fall 2022 semester.
These faculty were contacted by Distance Learning in the spring semester and provided
access to various resources. The Office of Distance Learning will reach out to the
faculty as more training becomes available, so please keep an eye out for any communication
from Ms. Davinder Kaur and her team.
Second, Dr. Jennifer Bryer, Interim Assistant Provost, is retiring effective the end
of this month. Before starting as Interim Assistant Provost in September 2019, Dr.
Bryer served as Assistant Dean of Health Sciences. Since joining the college in 2006,
Dr. Bryer has demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and service across all levels
of the college. Over the last three years, her leadership in overseeing the Office
of Distance Learning and Nexus Center for Applied Learning has been critical to the
college’s success in distance education and applied learning. In addition to serving
as the Chair of the Applied Learning Review Board, Dr. Bryer has been instrumental
in the development and rollout of microcredentials. We will search for an Assistant
Provost in the coming year. I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Bryer for
all of her hard work and dedication to Farmingdale over the last 16 years.
This year has been one with great challenges, but I am proud we have faced these obstacles
head-on together. As we move into the summer months, I hope you take time to relax
and be with your loved ones. I am truly proud to be among such an incredibly dedicated
and passionate group of individuals. I eagerly look forward to the upcoming academic
year and all we will accomplish together.
Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
