Digital Accessibility
To Faculty and Staff:
Farmingdale State College is committed to ensuring that our digital services and content
are accessible to everyone. Digital accessibility is essential to providing an equitable
learning and working environment and supports our broader institutional goals of inclusion
and student success.
In recent years, accessibility expectations for colleges and universities have expanded
significantly, including the U.S. Department of Justice update to Title II of the
Americans with Disabilities Act. In response to these federal standards, along with
existing New York State requirements and longstanding institutional commitments to
inclusion, the College requires that all digital tools, websites, course materials,
and online services conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2
Level AA.
As a result of this change, our accessibility review standards have been strengthened
to ensure compliance with federal and state law. All new or renewed software and digital
services are required to undergo a comprehensive accessibility assessment prior to
purchase or implementation. This review requires a current Voluntary Product Accessibility
Template (VPATĀ®), version 2.5, provided by the vendor, and will also include manual
accessibility testing conducted by the college. In addition, all technology acquisitions
must complete a comprehensive security and contractual review to ensure compliance
with college policies, regulatory requirements, and institutional standards. Please
note that this review process may take six months to complete and should be factored
into all project planning and procurement requests.
Everyone plays a role in ensuring an inclusive digital experience for our community.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to review the Digital Accessibility webpage available on our website. When looking to procure software or digital services, please
refer to the Procuring Accessible Vendors webpage for guidance. By incorporating accessible practices into our daily work, we collectively
support this important goal.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Information Technology via a support ticket or call 934-420-2754, so your question can be routed to the proper division.
