Simulated Phishing
To Faculty and Staff:
As digital threats grow increasingly sophisticated, even experienced professionals
can occasionally be deceived. It is important that we all remain alert for potential
phishing tactics when reviewing emails, phone calls, or other messages in order to
protect our campus community. As part of our ongoing efforts to bolster cybersecurity
awareness, the FSC Cybersecurity Team will be sending unannounced, simulated phishing
messages to campus email addresses for training purposes. The goal of these training
exercises is to support all employees in identifying and properly reporting potential
threats.
Please keep in mind the following approach when reviewing your email on a day-to-day
basis:
Stop, Look, and Think
- Verify that you recognize the sender and can trust any links or attachments included.
- Be extremely suspicious of requests for login credentials, financial information,
or other personal information.
- Treat messages that pressure you to act quickly, use threatening language, follow
unusual procedures, or include unexpected links or attachments with skepticism.
- Be mindful of communication that feels out of character for the sender or contains
spelling and grammatical errors.
If you receive a suspicious email, please flag it as phishing in Outlook. This will
prompt IT staff to investigate the message further and determine whether a threat
exists. If you believe that you have been tricked into giving out sensitive information,
please contact the FSC IT Helpdesk immediately at 934-420-2754.
The sooner we are alerted to a potential problem, the better. You will not only be
helping to protect your account and credentials, but you will also help to protect
the FSC community.
