New Feature for Microsoft Authenticator – Number Matching
Beginning Monday, November 14, the College is rolling out a new feature for Microsoft Authenticator push notifications to improve user sign-in security called number matching. Number matching is a key security upgrade to traditional second factor push notifications
in Microsoft Authenticator and is just as easy!
When a user responds to an MFA push notification using the Microsoft Authenticator app on their mobile device, they'll be presented with a number. They need to type that number into the Authenticator
app to complete the approval. See example below.
If you are using SMS text messaging or one-time passcodes (OTP) via an authenticator
app (Microsoft, Google, or another compatible OATH TOTP token generator), this change
does not affect your login process.
If you are not using the Microsoft Authenticator app, it is highly recommended that
you configure your account for it. You can do this by visiting the Multi-Factor Authentication webpage. Follow the link for enrollment and choose “Mobile App” and “Receive notifications
for verification”. Follow the instructions to setup the app.
Remember, NEVER share your password or MFA codes with anyone. Helpdesk will not ask
for this to be sent by email or text.
Many thanks to the Information Security staff and YOU for helping keep FSC secure.
