Knapp Hall Renovation
To the Campus Community:
I am pleased to report that the first-floor renovations in Knapp Hall are nearly complete
with only a few very minor punch-list items remaining. This exciting conclusion to
a project that began in 2021 has added over 20,000 square feet of dedicated office,
seminar, and conference space for the Department of Academic Support and Access Programs
as well as the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration.
The intent of this project was to create a vibrant center for the six programs that
support the academic and social development of at-risk and underrepresented students,
under the leadership of the Department of Academic Support and Access Programs. This
department provides students with access to tutoring, peer mentoring, academic coaching,
and other activities. The various programs, including CSTEP/STEP, EOP, TRIO, P-TECH,
LPP and Smart Scholars were previously scattered across the campus in a number of
different buildings. This project brought them together under one roof, at the heart
of the campus, in newly renovated spaces designed to support individual and group
learning and our ongoing effort to prepare our students to succeed.
The project also created shared spaces, including small and large tutoring rooms,
a computer lab, and a student lounge, as well as new ADA compliant restrooms. The
University Club has also undergone a renovation including a new pantry, finishes,
and furniture.
In addition, the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (OSPA) has been relocated
to Knapp Hall. OSPA supports the advancement of education, research, and discovery
on campus at Farmingdale through the submission of grant proposals, development of
new partnerships, and administering sponsored programs such as the programs described
above. They are now located in the south wing of Knapp Hall and share a conference
room with the Department of Academic Support and Access Programs.
The Office of Events Management is planning a more official opening for later in the
spring once the remaining work is completed. In the meantime, please feel free to
stop in and visit our colleagues in their new space.
