Daylight Hour 2022
June 20, 2023
To the Campus Community:
Farmingdale State College will continue our commitment to sustainability by participating
in Daylight Hour 2023. We are asking all members of the campus community to turn off
their lights, where practical, at 12 noon on June 21 for one hour.
The sun is Earth’s most abundant source of energy. The light from the sun grows plants,
powers solar panels, and provides an abundance of health benefits. Our participation
in Daylight Hour 2023 recognizes the importance of natural light and its impact on
sustainability and well-being.
By turning off our lights for just one hour, Farmingdale can save 1,250 kWh of electricity
and reduce our CO2 emissions by 1,500 lbs. Collectively, Daylight Hour 2023 will save enough energy
to power five Empire State Buildings!
We are also encouraging the campus community to consider scheduling a daylight hour
each Wednesday between 12 noon and 1:00 p.m. throughout the year. We can all do more
to support and encourage sustainability on campus and this continued effort is a great
step in our approach to long-term sustainability.
Register here for an easy reminder to make the most of the natural light available to us. Employees
are encouraged to share their experiences during Daylight Hour 2023 via social media
using #DaylightHour.
