Campus Safety Bulletin
To the Campus Community:
I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. As we begin the new semester, I’d
like to take a moment to remind everyone of important fire and life safety requirements.
Your cooperation in following these requirements helps protect our students, faculty,
staff, and visitors.
- Fire extinguishers must remain visible and unobstructed at all times.
- Doors are not to be chocked or propped open. This includes, but is not limited to, classroom
doors, restroom doors, fire doors, closet doors, and residence hall room doors.
- Exit doors, corridors, stairways, and all pathways leading to exits must remain clear and unobstructed at all times.
- Extension cords are prohibited. Only UL-listed surge protectors are permitted and must be used in accordance with
their listing.
- Appliances, where permitted, such as coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners,
and humidifiers, must be plugged directly into a wall outlet and never into a surge
protector, power strip, or multi-plug adapter.
- Combustible materials (e.g., clothing, boxes, papers, bedding) must be kept away from heat sources.
- Candles, wax warmers/heaters, incense, and other open-flame or similar devices are prohibited in all campus buildings and residence halls.
- The use of tobacco products, vapes, and e-cigarettes is prohibited on campus property except in areas specifically designated by signage for tobacco
use. Prohibited areas include campus-owned buildings, classrooms, lecture halls, residence
halls, laboratories, offices, work and study areas, meeting rooms, lobbies, hallways,
stairwells, elevators, dining areas, lounges, restrooms, athletic facilities, outdoor
pathways, building entrances, walkways, bus stops, loading docks, and vehicles owned
or leased by Farmingdale State College.
- Tampering with any fire or life safety device is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull
stations, fire alarm equipment, fire extinguishers, fire doors, and fire safety signage.
Tampering with fire and life safety equipment may constitute a Class B misdemeanor and may result in criminal and/or disciplinary action.
If you observe a potential fire or life safety hazard on campus, please report it
so that it can be addressed promptly. Contact the Campus Fire Marshal’s Office at
(934) 420-2603 with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your commitment to maintaining a safe environment for everyone at FSC.
Best wishes for a productive, successful, and safe semester.
Ryan Kleinkopf, FM40 Campus Fire Marshal
