Campus Fire Safety Bulletin
To the Campus Community:
Welcome back! I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. As we begin the new
semester, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone of a few important fire safety
guidelines:
- Fire extinguishers must remain unobstructed at all times.
- Doors on campus are not to be propped open. This includes, but is not limited to: classrooms,
bathrooms, fire doors, closets, dorm rooms, etc.
- Exit doors, and pathways leading to them, must always remain clear and accessible.
- Extension cords are prohibited. Only UL-listed surge protectors are permitted.
- Appliances such as coffee makers, microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, and humidifiers
must be plugged directly into a wall outlet, never into a surge protector, power strip,
or multi-plug adapter.
- Combustible materials (e.g., clothing, boxes, papers, bedding) must be kept away from any heat source.
- The use of candles, wax heaters, aerosol-based air freshener and incense is strictly prohibited.
- The use of tobacco, vapes, and e-cigarettes is prohibited on all campus-run property. This includes, but is not limited to:
- All campus-owned buildings: classrooms, lecture halls, residence halls, laboratories,
offices, study areas, meeting rooms, lounges, stairwells, elevators, and restrooms.
- Outdoor areas: fields, athletic facilities, walkways, building entrances, bus stops,
and loading docks.
- All college-owned or leased vehicles.
- Tobacco use is only permitted in clearly designated areas marked by signage.
- Tampering with any fire or life safety device, including smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, fire alarm panels, fire
extinguishers, fire doors, or safety signage, is a class B misdemeanor punishable by fine or imprisonment.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact my office

Wishing you all a safe and successful semester.
