13th Annual Faculty Center Conference
As a reminder, we encourage you to attend our annual Faculty Center conference on
Friday, February 23, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. This year's conference focuses on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, showing
how it can be used to help students achieve better outcomes, while creating research
that supports the larger higher education community. We have invited Dr. Lauren Scharff,
Director for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Program and Professor at the
United States Air Force Academy, for her keynote: “Inquiring Minds… Engage in the
Science of Teaching & Learning (SoTL).” Dr. Scharff will discuss how to develop your
reflections on teaching and learning into projects and research that improve student
understanding of your discipline. This conference will include the keynote address,
as well as an interactive workshop to help you develop your ideas into actionable
projects. The day will conclude with our Faculty Center Awards and short Lightning
Talk sessions from Farmingdale faculty and staff. Both faculty and staff are welcome
to attend.
For more information and to register, please visit the 13th Annual Faculty Center Conference webpage.
DEISJ Certification Course
The Faculty Center will be once again sponsoring its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion,
and Social Justice (DEISJ) Certification Course for faculty. This is an asynchronous
online course that will allow you to propose and teach DEISJ-designated courses. The
DEISJ Certification course is estimated to take about 2-3 hours per week and is conducted
through Brightspace. The course content is designed to develop learning outcomes that
support Farmingdale’s equity goals and SUNY’s DEISJ standards. Goals will include
how to: identify and address the historical and contemporary societal factors that
shape the development of individual and group identity; discuss strategies for intersectional
discussion with students in your discipline; and discuss frameworks for inclusive
pedagogy and how you can apply it to create an environment that is inclusive for students,
among others.
You are invited to sign up for this asynchronous online course, starting February 5th and ending March 3rd.
For more information, please visit the DEISJ Certification Course webpage.
