Managing Disruptive Behavior
Dear Colleagues,
According to the new Student Voice survey on health and wellness more than half of
college students have experienced chronic stress. This consistent sense of feeling
pressured and overwhelmed over a long period of time has undoubtedly contributed to
behavior patterns that disrupt learning in the classroom and at times have resulted
in disrespectful interactions with professional staff. As FSC works to provide resources
to address our students' mental health concerns, we are also looking to provide our
faculty and staff with the resources they need to maintain an environment that is
conducive to learning.
On Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom,
Executive Dean Murphy and I invite you to attend an informative presentation by Northwell
Health regarding the management of disruptive behavior either in the classroom or
office. This interactive presentation will be led by Dr. Laura Braider, AVP of Northwell
Health’s Behavioral Health College Partnership, and Dr. Matt Steinhauer, Director
of Northwell Health’s Behavioral Health College Partnership, and will review strategies
that can be used to de-escalate unexpected situations that may arise.
Looking forward to seeing you on September 14.
Dr. Laura Joseph, EdD
Senior Vice President and Provost
Mr. Kevin Murphy, RN, MSN
Executive Dean of Student Engagement
