Ramadan 2023
To the Campus Community:
Today marks the beginning of Ramadan. Ramadan is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar, which ends this year on April 20. Ramadan is observed
by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Farmingdale
State College, a growing, vibrant, diverse, and multicultural community, recognizes
that religious observances of members of the FSC community may conflict with College
activities.
As respected members of the College community who understand the importance of supporting
students who wish to practice their religious beliefs, it is necessary to be sensitive
to our inclusive environment which promotes acceptance of religious expression. Reasonable
accommodations should be provided when possible, to allow for religious obligations
and observances. The proactive recognition and celebration of religious holidays is
quintessential to our mission of being dedicated to student success. Please encourage
your students to inform you of their religious practices in a timely fashion, and
to work interactively in good faith with these students so that they can practice
their faith while ensuring their academic success in the classroom. Thank you for
the role you play at building a culture of belonging.
To all the members of our community, may every year find you in good health.
