Long Island Rail Road Strike and Campus Transportation
To the Campus Community:
The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) strike is now in effect and is impacting travel to
campus. The following is initial guidance for students, faculty, and staff, should
the work stoppage continue into Monday, as we enter finals week.
- Students, faculty, and staff who rely on the LIRR should make alternate travel arrangements.
Suffolk County Transit and NICE (Nassau Inter-County Express) bus systems both provide service to campus. Carpooling is encouraged.
- Students who have a final exam and are unable to get to campus should contact their
professor to make alternate arrangements.
- University Police will suspend parking ticketing while the strike is in effect.
- FSC campus shuttle service between the Farmingdale LIRR station and campus will be
suspended. However, shuttles will continue to operate between campus and the Aviation
Center on a regular schedule.
- Non-essential employees who rely on the LIRR can contact their supervisor about telecommuting
or charging time. Essential staff in Facilities Operations and University Police should
report to work as directed.
Students in need of support should contact the Dean of Students Office by email at
dean.students@farmingdale.edu or call 934-420-2104.
Please visit the FSC LIRR Strike Contingency Guidance webpage for resources and updated information.
We are monitoring the situation and will share updates as more information becomes
available.
