Building Temperatures and Infrastructure
To Faculty and Staff:
As we transition into the warmer months and begin switching our campus buildings from
heating to air conditioning, we once again encounter a number of challenges across
our aging facilities. The seasonal changeover from steam heat to chilled air is a
complex process that requires careful coordination, manual system adjustments, and
ongoing monitoring. From aging HVAC components and control limitations, to buildings
that heat and cool at different rates, maintaining comfort across campus during this
period can be particularly demanding—especially during sudden temperature swings or
early-season heat waves.
Our dedicated Facilities Operations staff often work around the clock and behind the
scenes to manage this transition and respond to emergent issues. Their efforts are
critical to keeping our classrooms, offices, and labs as comfortable and functional
as possible under challenging conditions.
We recognize that some spaces may experience periods of discomfort during the AC changeover.
Facilities will continue to monitor weather conditions and make adjustments as needed
to maintain a comfortable indoor environment across campus buildings. If you experience
heating or cooling issues, please submit a work order using this link: Farmingdale State College Work Order System.
Together with the important work underway to modernize and revitalize our facilities,
we ask for your patience and cooperation as our teams balance routine maintenance,
work order requests, and critical infrastructure needs during this busy seasonal transition.
