Temporary Pause on Certain Financial Transactions
To Faculty and Staff:
In the spirit of transparency, we want to share an update on a statewide budget action
that is impacting SUNY campuses. Earlier this week, SUNY System Administration notified
campuses that SUNY had reached its spending limit for the current fiscal period and,
because SUNY operates as one unified public system, these thresholds apply collectively.
As a result, SUNY has directed all campuses to temporarily pause certain financial
activity until the new State fiscal year begins in April.
Effective immediately, SUNY has placed a temporary freeze on all financial activity
across the system. During this freeze, no new transactions—including purchases, payments,
transfers, or other financial activity—can be processed. Departments may continue
entering requisitions and, once routed through local campus approvals, these will
be held in Procurement until New York State reopens processing. We expect the system
to reopen by April 6.
As part of the SUNY system, we occasionally experience financial controls that are
managed at the State level and, while these are often outside our direct influence,
we remain committed to keeping our campus informed.
Please feel free to reach out to the finance office with any questions.
