Welcome to the Tutoring Center! We are pleased to provide you with tutoring to assist you in your studies. This service is available to currently registered Farmingdale State College students and is funded in part by the Student Government Association. There is no direct cost to you.
However, you do have certain responsibilities involved with this tutoring service:
- Students are expected to come prepared for their tutoring sessions. This includes, but is not limited to: reading the textbook, studying on their own outside of the Center, and attending class sessions. After first consulting their course instructor for assistance, students may meet with a tutor to address specific questions and/or concepts in which further assistance is needed. Tutors are not substitutes for attending class and they are not responsible for teaching course material (this is the role of the course instructor).
- Students who utilize the Center's services are required to follow all posted policies and procedures, including the College's policy on Academic Integrity, Acceptable Use for Computer Facilities, and the Student Code of Conduct. Failure to comply may result in a referral to the Dean of Students office.
- Tutors are NOT permitted to complete assignments for you, provide you with answers, or assist with any graded material (such as a take-home exam, lab report, etc.). Please do not ask it of them or expect them to do so.
- Tutors reserve the right to terminate a session early if the student is not sufficiently prepared and may provide the student with a follow-up task before attending a future tutoring session.
- All students must complete and sign one Application for Tutoring per semester.
- Students must have their Farmingdale student ID to sign in and record their RAM ID and course information for every session on the tutor's logsheet.
- Students should check the schedule for availability of course(s) desired. It is advisable to check the Tutoring Center's webpage - farmingdale.edu/tutoring for any unforeseen schedule changes and important announcements.
- Bring relevant textbooks and classroom notes to each session. You will be expected to have read the text or notes and have prepared questions for your tutor.
- Please help us keep our new area clean and odor free - no food or drink is permitted in the Center. In accordance with College policy, smoking (including the use of e-cigarettes and vaporizers) is strictly prohibited indoors.
While we strive to provide individual attention, it is often necessary for our tutors to engage in group tutoring. On occasion you may be asked to wait while a tutor attends to another student or to participate in a group tutoring session. Please cooperate and be courteous to your fellow students.
Please see me personally in the Center, contact me by email, or by phone 934-420-2066 if you have any concerns, complaints, requests, etc. We hope that you benefit as well as enjoy your sessions at the Tutoring Center. Use both your own and your tutor's time wisely. We appreciate your cooperation in carrying out your responsibilities and wish you success in your academic endeavors.
