President Keen Honored by Special Olympics

President Keen will be the Honoree at this year’s Gold Coast Tour of Champions Golf Outing to benefit the Special Olympics (New York and Long Island Region). The event will be held at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club on July 23. Dr. Keen is being honored for his service to the organization. Farmingdale has been host to the Special Olympics Torch Run for many years and graduates of Farmingdale State College have been participants in Special Olympics events. The organization provides year-round sports training and athletics in a variety of sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and gives them opportunities to develop physical fitness and participate in positive social interactions with family members and the community. “I’m very appreciative of this award and what it represents,” Dr. Keen said. “At Farmingdale, we strive to be good neighbors and support worthy programs in the community, and there is none more worthy than Special Olympics.” For information on tickets to the event, please call (631) 254-1465 (ext. 10) or email

The BBQ sauce, based on a recipe of an actual faculty member from Farmingdale’s era as an agricultural institute, was created to celebrate the College’s 100th anniversary and has received attention in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education and Newsday.
