The Weiss-Lee-Kalayjian Trio - award-winning, world-famous chamber musicians - will perform a free concert at Farmingdale State College on April 15.
The performance is free and open to the public. It will begin at 7 p.m., in the Little Theatre at Roosevelt Hall.
Among other selections, the trio will perform Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 7 – aka Archduke. The musicians are all highly sought-after soloists and award-winning chamber musicians. They have performed at major venues around the world.
Pianist Orion Weiss has performed with major American orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He also toured Israel with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He was named Young Artist of the Year by the Classical Recording Foundation in 2010. His recordings include a recital album of Dvorak, Prokofiev, and Bartok, and the complete George Gershwin portfolio for piano and orchestra in collaboration with the Buffalo Philharmonic.
Vassar College professor, violinist Jessica Lee, owns the first-prize award from the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. She has given recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, and performed at music festivals in Bridgehampton, NY and Santa Fe, NM. The Chicago Tribune has said of her, “Lee’s breathtaking dexterity should enchant anyone within hearing distance.” She made her European solo debut in 2010, with the Pizen Philharmonic in the Czech Republic.
Cellist Ani Kalayjian is a Grand Prize winner of the International Chamber Music Competition of New England, who has toured Japan, Australia, Canada, Europe and the U.S. She has performed for princes in Qatar and princesses in Britain, and appeared in a BBC documentary with cellist Steven Isserlies. In one performance review, she was praised as a “superb cellist with a large, expressive, singing tone, passionate musicianship and magnificent playing.”
