Farmingdale State College’s Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)are teaming up to raise funds for the organization by giving Long Islanders who want to help rid our roads of drunk drivers a chance to help demolish a car.
The three-day event, dubbed “Car Smash,” is scheduled for April 28-April 30 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., in front of the campus’s old Child Care Center, across from the Campus Center. Motorists fed up with drunk drivers will pay $2 for one swing and $5 dollars for three swings with a sledgehammer to help destroy a car that has been donated to MADD by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.
“This event is a way to raise awareness of MADD,” said William Finnegan, Greek Council Chair of Tau Kappa Epsilon. “But instead of a lecture or slide show it is being presented in an interactive way.”
Money raised at the event will go toward funding “Walk Like MADD,” a 5K walk scheduled to be held at the Farmingdale campus on May 31. It is one of 60 walks scheduled across the U.S. in 2014. The event will include live entertainment and food; activities for kids, teens and parents, and ignition-interlock demonstrations.
