SUNY Adult-Learner College Fair at Farmingdale State College May 29

May 24, 2019

Nearly half of those enrolled in undergraduate higher education today are known as "post -traditional" or adult students. Their numbers are increasing every day, as they are returning to college for a variety of reasons. Their needs and circumstances are different from their younger counterparts.

That's why Farmingdale State College is hosting a SUNY Adult-Learner College Fair on Wednesday,
May 29, 6 - 8 p.m., in the Campus Center Ballroom. This community outreach event is geared for returning students as well as adults considering college for the first time. Registration is required at farmingdale.edu/adult-learner. Additional information is available at 631-420-2733.

Representatives from Long Island's five other SUNY schools: Stony Brook University, Nassau and Suffolk Community Colleges, SUNY College at Old Westbury, and SUNY Empire State College will be on hand. The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center will be available for those who need preparation to achieve their academic goals. Specifically created for this population, the Fair includes assistance, information, and advice on:

• Financial Aid
• Admissions
• Transfer credits
• Career information
• Online learning
• Veterans' services
• Programs for adults who are not "college ready"
• Life experience credit

"Adults are returning to school in record numbers," said Judi Cestaro, Farmingdale's Director of Transfer Services. "Some are beginning their college career, some are returning to complete a degree they started, and others are seeking further education as the demand for higher-skilled workers rises. The one common thread among them is that they are apprehensive. This program is designed to alleviate their concerns.

"I meet so many adults who wish to pursue a degree or complete one, and don't know where to begin. We're hosting this college fair just for them."
