Products from the Garden at Farmingdale State College

Horticulture department celebrates the green movement

April 9, 2013

On Saturday, April 13, the Ornamental Horticulture Teaching Gardens will be open all day for its third annual Educational Field Day and Open House.  Themed Products from the Garden, this is a benefit for the Department of Ornamental Horticulture’s Sustainable Garden.

In addition to a plant raffle and plant sales, there will be lectures, workshops, garden tours and local food. Music will be provided by Spencer and the Elders at lunch from 12:30-1:30 pm.

Scheduled speakers will be Travis Beck of the New York Botanical Garden, Alice Wise of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County and Ken Greene of the Hudson Valley Seed Library in Accord, NY.

Learn how to grow grapes, make your own compost tea brewer, select and save local seeds, and create landscapes full of food and beauty.

Planned to coincide with the college’s Open House for prospective students, the event will be held from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm.

The $10 admission fee will be used to benefit the gardens.  For a complete schedule, go to:  https://www.farmingdale.edu/academics/business/ornamental-horticulture/index.shtml
