Give Kids A Smile Day At Farmingdale State College
Children from Amityville and Wyandanch School Districts To Be Given Dental Health Education
Boy Getting Teeth Cleaned at Dental Hygiene Care CenterOn Friday, February 6, Farmingdale State will host its first ever "Give Kids A Smile" day by inviting elementary school children, and their families, from the neighboring Amityville and Wyandanch school districts to the campus to learn about dental health. From 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., the children will be educated about how to brush teeth and then brought to the $2.5M recently refurbished Dental Hygiene Care Center in Gleeson Hall for a cleaning and evaluation. Through the efforts of the American Dental Association, "Give Kids A Smile Day" is celebrated in February each year throughout the nation. Approximately 150 people are expected to attend this free event.
Farmingdale State has been a leading educator for the profession of dental hygiene since the 1960s and is partnering with the Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and the Suffolk County Dental Society for this national event. Henry Schein and Colgate are donating supplies for the event through the ADA. Volunteers from the Suffolk County Dental Society, the Long Island Dental Hygiene Association and Sigma Phi Alpha will assist the Farmingdale State professors and students. Stony Brook dental residents will provide any needed urgent care.
