Director of Sponsored Programs Appointed at Farmingdale State
Dawn Grzan Will Lead College 's Efforts in Research Funding
Encouraged by the substantial growth of research efforts on the campus, Dr. W. Hubert Keen , president of Farmingdale State College, today announced the appointment of Medford resident Dawn Grzan as the College's first Director of Research and Sponsored Program Development. This position is key to the College's continued expansion of efforts to generate external funding support.
Under Dr. Keen's leadership, research and grant funding has expanded 14 percent - from $2.2M in 2006-07 to $2.5M in 2007-08.
The Director of Sponsored Programs is responsible for sustaining and increasing grant funding for research and other institutional programs. In addition, Grzan will encourage faculty proposal development while providing training for faculty and staff in the application process for sponsored programs. Grzan will identify potential sponsors, notify faculty and staff of upcoming funding opportunities, act as liaison with funding agencies, and assist with proposal preparation and submission to ensure compliance with funding agency policies. As director, Grzan will report to the Provost, Dr. Beverly Kahn .
In making the announcement, Dr. Keen said, "Grzan brings a breadth of experience in topics such as Federal and State agency regulations and the responsible conduct of research. Her experience will be of enormous value to Farmingdale State as we develop research programs and pursue funding opportunities that will contribute to the advancement of the College."
Grzan has seven years of experience managing grants and research funding and a thorough knowledge of sponsored programs concepts. Grzan most recently held the position of Director of Sponsored Programs at Central Connecticut State University New Britain. She was responsible for the management of all government and foundation/corporation grant requests and proposals submitted by Central Connecticut State University . At Central Connecticut State University , Grzan was known as Pierpoint-Grzan.
Prior to that, Grzan was the Director of Grants and Research Funding at Dowling College, where she successfully secured and oversaw more than $4,500,000 in federal, contracts and private foundation/corporation grants from agencies like the US Department of Education, Department of Energy, National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Grzan is a member of the American Association of University Women. She was an active member of the Patchogue Rotary Club and the Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Grzan earned a BS in Applied Mathematics and Statistics from Stony Brook University . She earned her MBA in Information Systems Management from Dowling College .
